12/3/2023 0 Comments Sephiroth false heroMaybe jenova chose sephiroth as his form when he was freed from shinra both because of the fear shinra had with sephiroth as well as his history with cloud. Sephiroth was famous throughout the world, he is a form that takes on meaning for most everyone in the world. Sephiroth is actually dead the entire time and it’s all really jenova. Once again, where there is sephiroth, there is jenova. “Outmatched, Kadaj opens Jenova's box and fuses with its contents, transforming into Sephiroth.” It is mostly the time between 7 and AC, but the same idea applies for the time period between CC and 7, at least I believe it's similar. obligatory Hojo/Shinra are the real villainsĮdit: Here's a link to those specific stories - it's a rather short read, but does fill in some of those gaps. Basically unless Cloud forgives and/or forgets, some part of Sephiroth will always exist.īut it's not familiarity so much as just the sheer strength of Cloud's feelings of blame after the incident. That's.a simplification but the jist I gathered anyway. The memory itself that Cloud carries helps keep what little sense of self Sephiroth has left coherent, and his spirit or whatever realizes this and clings to it/uses it. There's a collection of stories titled "On the Way to a Smile" that explains things in a bit more detail - it's more (or just as much, at least) Cloud's blame and hatred of Sephiroth (along with the Jenova connection) that gives lifestream Sephiroth a tether to the 'real' world. Now if they start changing major plot points like having Aerith live, or killing Cloud and having a certain black haired swordsman replace him in the party, then that's where they will have gone too far for me. I'm still mostly here for the original FFVII stuff, but so long as they still hit all of the the main story beats from the original game and keep all of the character arcs intact, as they said they were going to do, then I'm okay with the game being a stealth sequel. Personally, I have rather mixed feelings about the compilation as a whole, but I have to admit I mostly like how it has been implemented so far in Remake. So he'd obviously have an interest in making sure Cloud goes down the exact path that Sephiroth desires. So Cloud is now both the greatest threat to Sephiroth's plans and also his most useful lifeline that he wants to keep in play in case anything else goes wrong. He's essentially become like a parasite, living off of Cloud's hatred and pain. So long as Cloud continues to hold hate in his heart for Sephiroth and continues to think about him, Sephiroth will never truly die and can just keep coming back any number of times until he gets what he wants. A plot point from Lifestream Black, an Advent Children Tie-in story, revealed that the reason Sephiroth can come back after he's killed is because he made Cloud's hatred the core of his consciousness. If the theory about Sephiroth actually being from the future turns out to be true, then his obsession with Cloud can be explained even further. A Sephiroth who had lived through this already though would believe that Aerith isn't really that big of a deal and that the person he really needs to keep his eye on is Cloud, since Cloud is the one that actually kills him in the future. In the original game, Sephiroth believed that Aerith and Holy were the greatest threats to his plans. He is now trying to change things so that he can actually win this time. It's heavily implied that Sephiroth has been through the events of FFVII and the compilation before, or at the very least has now become aware of how those events are meant to play out. The big idea that a lot of people have come to believe with Remake is that FFVII Remake is actually a stealth sequel to FFVII that will both go through the plot of the original FFVII, as is expected of a proper remake, and also finish off the the storyline of the FFVII Compilation.
